For Immediate Release

The Clipper Race Team have arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia to recruit crew for the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. This is the last chance for Canadians to get on board the Clipper 07-08 Race and represent their country on a global stage. Stopping at international ports on a 35,000 mile race around the world, Clipper 07-08 offers a life changing opportunity for those wishing to take on the challenge.

The Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race is the only yacht race for non-professional sailors, which means anyone can apply regardless of experience. Full comprehensive training is provided which is tailored turn to complete novices into competent ocean racers. The race is split into seven separate legs enabling crew to do as much or as little as they choose, from a single leg to the full circumnavigation.

With its rich sailing history the Clipper Race Team have chosen Halifax as their port of call to recruit east coast Canadians for the race. The Clipper Race Team will be in Halifax all day and will also give a presentation early this evening for those wishing to find out more about the race. Crew Recruitment Manager David Cusworth will be on hand to answer questions and share his first hand experiences, having completed the full circumnavigation in the Clipper 2002 Race.

“It’s fantastic to be back in Halifax,” said David. “My first visit here was an impromptu one caused by Hurricane Sabian during the Clipper 2002 Race. The fleet had to safe harbour in Halifax for a couple of hours and the warmth of the reception we received back then has stayed with me to this day.”

Several Canadians have already decided to make the Clipper 07-08 Race a turning point in their lives. Rick Smith, 54, from Ontario has signed up to do the full circumnavigation. Having followed the previous Clipper Races on the internet, he is excited by the prospect of taking part. “By doing the race I’m able to fulfil a dream,” said Rick. “I’m looking forward to the sailing challenges, meeting new people and seeing the world.”

It’s not too late to join Rick as a crewmember on board the Clipper 07-08 Round World Yacht Race.
